Summary of Position:

As a Project Cost Estimator for Precision General Commercial Contractors, Inc., you will be involved with the cost oversight on all projects.  Your primary responsibility will be to analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, costs materials and labor estimates. You will report to the executive assigned to your project(s).     You will be expected to comply with Precision GCC, Inc. Employment Handbook.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Performs other duties as required and assigned

  • Quality- make sure all work products are accurate including bids, bid documents,
  • Costs- Analyze bids, proposals, and owner products for accuracy
  • Schedule- Provide all work products in a timely manner primarily bid products and estimates to owners.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements, Budget Variances, and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain tendering process, and conduct negotiations.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
  • Visit site and record information about access, drainage and topography, and availability of services such as water and electricity.
  • Develop estimates and scope of work for Capital Improvements, which include; Building Envelopes (roofing, masonry, siding, stucco, windows and doors); Building Systems (M/E/P, kitchen / bathroom renovations); compliance (handicap accessibility and asbestos abatement); and major renovations to Multi Family Housing Projects.
  • Review construction drawings and specifications to perform accurate take-offs of materials and supplies. Prepare RFI's based on plan review in proper format and submit to the Architect. Prepare RFI's from subcontractors in proper format and submit to Architect.
  • Be familiar with requirements from TCAC, CDLAC, CalFHA, USDA Rural development and California Housing & Community Development bond / grant programs.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with Developers and Owners' Representatives from non-profit development organizations and Regional Housing Authorities.
  • Manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines under demanding time constraints.
  • Upon award of projects, negotiate purchase orders and subcontracts to achieve maximum buyout savings.
  • Prepare preliminary submittals for Architect review.
  • Prepare project weekly reports and track pre-con progress accordingly prior to Project Manager "Hand-Off".
  • Submit weekly reports to the CEO inclusive of: Current & future project status, and client development and retention.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:


  • High school degree; Bachelor's degree

 Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of five (5) years in Estimating or Project Management
  • Computer Skills (Scheduling Programs, Microsoft)
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Excellent organizational skills; detailed oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Able to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and projects accurately
  • Ability to quickly and appropriately prioritize conflicting demands

Physical Requirements:

  • Possesses multi-limb and eye-hand coordination
  • Able to stand, bend, reach, stoop and lift boxes up to 10
  • Able to work in a pace environment for extended periods of time
  • Able to sit at desk, working on computer and phones for a full work day
  • Able to work overtime as needed
  • Able to travel locally / state / national
